So proud. (Part I in a series.)
Fewer than five minutes in all. Months in the making. By far, more effort on a frame-by-frame basis than anyone else's film we saw screened today. And she did well- with the film itself, with her Artist's Statement following it, and in the reaction from the faculty and even the dean of her college, who had mostly positive and encouraging things to say about it.

The view from the cheap seats as she explained the genesis and execution of "The Quilt," her senior thesis film:

The film was- always has been- about her (and our) longtime experiences with depression and about encouraging help for those affected by it- directly or indirectly- the condition without being preachy about it. To help tell the story, Emily added a new voice, one of the protagonist's sister, voiced by her best friend in the program, who gave the story balance and perspective. She also added a different form of opening to the film, which both shortened it and strengthened it.

The credits- on the screen and during her statement- thanked Eleanor and me, but the final credit on the screen, and her dedication of the film during her talk, was to Cam, who sat there with us with the same pride and amazement that we were feeling.

Now she chills for a couple of days-all she has left are a few final homeworks to turn in, and she shouldn't see a need to call in a hoax threat to stop the ceremony if she's not in it-  and in a little under 72 hours, she will cross her college stage and be recognised officially for the talent we've always seen in her.
