Aristophanes....
Old school fans of TV's Odd Couple know what word comes next:

Sadly, that moment is about as happy as this entry is gonna get. Because the total takeover of gun-nut culture in this country is so complete, so inarguable and so permanent that no amount of firepower, in quantity or quality, is going to change anything.

We have met the enemy, and he is armed- and has won. He can carry anything, anywhere, of any caliber, with no registration, no background checks, no limits on arsenals. When bad things happen- and they happen, now, virtually every day- the Nutzoid Machine and its band of trolls are out there, responding to every story, every death, every mass murder, to quibble and qualify and Jedi Mind-Trick us out of paying any attention to what happened today, and the day before that, and the day before that. These are not the guns we're looking for. Move along.

Things in Buffalo hit bottom yesterday when a gun nut from Wayne County (where local ordinance likely mandates the maintenance of a fort-size cache of weaponry in every home) got busted trying to conceal-carry his .32 handgun, and a seven-round magazine of ammo, into Kleinhans Music Hall- home of the Buffalo Philharmonic and, that day, the site of (presumably) a young relative's dance recital:

Dwight R. Seufert of Jackson School Road, Lyons in Wayne County, and his daughter Karen L. Stefaniak, 43, of Dash Street, Buffalo were both charged with felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second-degree and reckless endangerment in the first degree about 2:15 p.m. Sunday after hall security called Buffalo police. The initial report was seeing “what appeared to be the outline of a gun” on Seufert’s left hip.

As Seufert was being searched, he allegedly pushed a police lieutenant “and other officers and became belligerent,” according to a police report. Police reportedly found Seufert’s daughter had the loaded handgun in a black nylon bag. Police reported finding eight rounds of ammunition in the handgun with Seufert having a 7-round magazine in his vest pocket.

Both were also charged with tampering with physical evidence, harassment, disorderly conduct and endangering the welfare of a child.

Ah, but do scroll down to the 180-plus comments, loaded (see what I did there?) with justifications and explanations and ridicule of anyone who doesn't want a good guy with a gun in the same concert hall as a bad guy with a tutu. These trolls are insufferable, determined to have the last word. To Stand Their Ground by any means necessary.

At least a few of them try to cast the blame, as the Nuts Running America famously did after Sandy Hook, on the violent video game and other media culture that permeates modern Murca. And they're right- that there is one. I loves me my Fargo, even though its weekly body count approaches that of several minor Vietnam battles. But it's fiction. And I can tell the difference, just as I could when I was the mental age of some of these nutjobs and enjoyed seeing Wile E. Coyote blowing the Acme up out of shit. Funny, though: Europe has the same video games and violent media that we do. Japan, arguably, has even more violent "triggers." What they don't have is hardly any real-life carnage approaching what we have. Because we won a war and disarmed major portions of those societies, while other major portions were so sick of having their entire civilizations bombed to the Stone Age that they, for all intents and purposes, enabled their own disarming- of both the good guys AND the bad.

This country hasn't seen a battle on its own shores in close to 150 years, save one terrorist incident that has justified a multitude of stupid. Including the rapid-fire escalation of weaponry, in quantity and caliber, to the point where every school, every government building, every retail establishment, and, fuck-all here, even every cultural institution can become the next Sandy Hook.

God Bless America. Lord knows we need it.

With all the police violence against innocent people it's interesting to me that you never see or hear of any gun supporter rushing to their aid.
