There's a polary vortex in our fridgity-daire....
(Don't recognize the reference? You should.)

Suffice it, it's been cold the past two days. I got more of a blast of it today, when I walked among five different buildings in downtown Buffalo, several of them right in the icy blast of the wind coming off the Lake.  Those stops ranged from barely productive to mostly useless; the worst of the latter was visiting the corporate HQ of my health insurer (I'll do anything to avoid being put on hold by an overseas call center).

I was happy to hear that my health plan was only going up by a few bucks a month for essentially the same coverage, and  that they would be adding a $250 "wellness card" benefit to the account.  I'd had these a few times in prior years, getting either gym memberships or training sessions out of it; last year's plan didn't have one, but I'd saved enough on the 2013 card to pre-pay my entire cardio gym through the middle of this month. The trick, I knew, was you had to ask for the card, so that's why I went.

The good news? You don't have to ask; everybody gets one. The bad, though? They don't send them out until the middle of next month, and no, there's no way to expedite it.

So after my other rounds downtown, and finishing the work here, I headed to the front desk of said gym to see if they had any ideas- and they did.  Apparently this has come up before; it will cost me a one-time $25 payment out of pocket to extend my membership until the wellness card comes in, but they'll then deduct the $25 from the annual membership, possibly leaving me something for other activities during the year.

Just please- nothing outside for awhile:P

thats cool that the gym is willing to work it out so you can continue the membership despite the insurance company's slowness.

Brr... makes our "cold" seem pretty inconsequential, since we don't really get much more than a few degrees below freezing. :-)
