Flower. Power. - Blather. Rants. Repeat.
A Møøse once bit my sister ...
Flower. Power.
Those who know us, know that Eleanor is not into mushy jewelry bling on days like this. "Better to get me power tools," I've heard her say.

So I did both:

The earrings aren't here yet; I didn't get the idea until yesterday, and they're shipping from an Etsy shop in Edmonton.  But the thought was what counted.  Also, the only flowers this year were in one of her cards.

We've been puttering since: I've cracked (literally) more of the adhesive from the walls, and cleaned up a little yard detritis. It's finally started to rain here, so that may lead to more of the former than the latter.

I also tilted with Home Despot customer service.  We were sold Purchase Protection on the two big appliances in the redo, but we never got any paperwork with terms or procedures at the time. Eleanor called today and found out we could Do It All Online with just the receipt for the purchase.... except not.

The receipt number wouldn't register once I set up an account and tried to register the appliances. A call (yes, they are there on Sundays) confirmed that the store had helpfully pre-registered the receipt for us- but without providing any access to that information if we ever needed to make a claim. As I talked to them, I refreshed my account page; a-one, then a-two, appliances magically appeared on the account I'd set up, but when I went to copy down the model numbers, it turned out that they'd registered two refrigerators and no cooktop- and then couldn't substitute the cooktop for the second fridge because the appliances (and thus the plans) have different price points. So we are now in the hands of the Real IT Guys who don't work Sundays and won't have anything for 24-48 hours. Fortunately, the fridge is working and the cooktop's not even out of the box yet.

If you think this is OCD, you haven't had our past luck.  Remember Circuit City? They once sold us purchase protection on a DVR machine, and when it broke down a year into the three-year coverage, they refused to honor it because the receipt showed a different model number than the actual unit.  Yeah, I confessed: we bought two separate ones that day just to defraud you. After stopping the sarcasm and threatening them with a call to the Attorney General (Eliot Spitzer at the time, who would have crushed them into submission with his orthopedic socks), we got a replacement from them, but yeesh. Neither appliance on this order had the correct manufacturer stated on the receipt (both are actually Whirlpools, but the receipt said one is a GE and the other a Maytag).  They upsell the "protection" as being peace of mind, but when you try to use it, if you're not completely careful, they turn out to be more piece of shit.

Don't make us angry, guys, or we'll come at you with our power earrings.
